Birthday Party and 1 Year Stats

So, we stuck to our plan and had a relatively low key birthday celebration for Ethan. Even doing something relatively simple was a lot of work, so I won't be planning any extravagant birthday parties in the near future. Most of the work was baking since I chose to do a healthier option cake for Ethan rather than a store bought one with tons of sugar. I also attempted cake pops for the first time. They turned out fine, but I learned some things in the process that will probably make them better next time around.

Ethan really didn't get the whole opening presents thing, but he did enjoy playing with paper and tags from everything.

Yesterday we both survived the 1 year check up with the doctor, which included a total of 6 shots. Fortunately, Ethan calmed down quickly after it was over, and he hasn't had any adverse side effects. On the plus side, he slept better last night than he has been lately. The doctor agrees with me that the sleep issues are most likely due to teething. He is proving to be such a slow teether, and we know that he has several currently coming in and more not too far behind. I can feel the molars in the back underneath the surface of the gums. I am looking forward to the day when he goes back to sleeping solid until at least 6 in the morning.

He is currently approximately 25 pounds and 31 inches long now. The thing is that he isn't a fat baby, he has got some serious muscle on him. He is so strong and has been from the day he was born. Within his first day of life, he was lifting his head up if you held him up to your shoulder.

He started walking this past week, and is getting steadier and faster each day. Pretty soon, he will be running all over the place. He already wants to but doesn't quite have the stability for that yet.

Below are some birthday pictures.

Ethan got a cookie on his actual birthday since his party was later in the week.
