It is quite amazing in the developmental realm these days. It seems like he figures something new out practically every day. Shortly after his 9 month appointment, he started pulling himself up to a standing position, using everything possible to get to his feet. We immediately discovered that things we thought were out of his reach had to be moved up higher. He even gets up on his toes sometimes trying to reach something that he can see on an end table.
I have to really keep a close eye on him at all times. He is a speed demon when it comes to crawling now, and he can get from point A to point B too quickly if you aren't paying attention. He also puts EVERYTHING in his mouth, which means that I have to scan the floors regularly for things that should not be there.
Ethan just started signing for "more" this past week. I am thrilled to be moving forward with communication skills. It will make things so much easier. Even just one word helps tremendously.
Almost two weeks ago, we left to spend a week at my parents' house, the week prior to my sister's wedding. What a week! Ethan has been struggling as his top teeth are trying to come in. His gums have been swollen for quite some time, and after a horrible night of sleep last night, I think one of them is finally breaking through. On top of the teething issue, Ethan was not in his familiar surroundings, and I wasn't really thrilled with his vacation sleep patterns. Due to the amount of family around, we had to share a room with Ethan, and he woke up at 1 or 3 every morning wanting us to get him out of the crib. Add a whole host of new faces, and we had a challenging and tiring week. Considering the circumstances, Ethan did well, but we were absolutely exhausted by the time we got home. Ethan was thrilled to be back home, squealing when we got into the house and he saw all of his toys. He wanted me to put him down on the ground right away and took off to play. We are quickly getting back to our standard routine.
It is hard to believe that he will be a year old in less than two months. What an incredible addition he has been to our lives!! Ethan has a streak of a strong willed personality in him (for some reason people think he got that from me), but we can already tell that he is going to be a funny kid. He already loves to make us laugh.
