Ethan didn't understand what it meant that it was his birthday, but he started getting into the whole thing when he started getting cards in the mail and especially when I made a birthday cake for him. He was excited to eat it and then had fun opening presents!
We enjoyed the time with him and extended the celebration out a few days. The other day, we were looking at the one year photos we had printed that are framed and up on the shelf in the living room. He has changed and grown up so much in a year!!
We had his 2 year check-up with a doctor on Tuesday. He is now 37 inches tall (3'1"), which places him in the 98th percentile for his age, and he is 31 lbs 7 oz or in the 90th percentile for weight. More and more, he is showing us how smart he really is, but we have to create the right opportunity for him to let us know he knows something. He does not readily volunteer the information. The other night, we discovered that not only can he basically count to 6 on his own even though we haven't been consistently working on this, but he is starting to gain early reading skills. He can fill in words to many of his books if we pause and give him the opportunity to do it, including words that we had no idea he knew.
Here are some pictures from his birthday celebration.

Such sweet photos! He is quite the growing boy! I think his height and weight are the exact same as Andrew's right now! Thank you for sharing all the photos!
