So, we took a 2 1/2 week "vacation" last month. By vacation, I mean that we flew back to Oregon to visit family. Let me just say that navigating airports, airplanes, long car rides, and overnight stays in multiple households with a 2 1/2 year old is rough. I think 2 weeks would have been just about perfect so we didn't have to cram a lot of visiting into a short period of time, but that extra 1/2 week almost put us over the edge. All three of us were tired and ready to be back home. Ethan missed his house and his toys, but he loved getting to see all the people we have missed this past year.
Rather than taking a direct flight from Phoenix to Portland (that would have been too easy), we flew into Medford so that it was more convenient for my parents to pick us up. That made it possible for us to borrow a car from them, rather than rent a car, to use while visiting Tim's family in Portland. We were successful in spending time with all of our immediate family members except for my sister who currently lives in Tennessee. As a bonus, we were able to see some friends as well, and my grandparents live in the same town as my parents, so seeing them was a given as well.
Some of the highlights for Ethan on our trip were: playing at Andrew's house, getting to know Robyn, Clara and Kent (one of my college friend's kids), the Portland Children's Museum, the A.C. Gilbert House, Ocean World, going to Uncle Jeremy's library, and collecting shells at the beach.
